Summer time!

What could be more fun than running through the sprinkler on a hot summer day? We've already spent a couple days playing out in the water. The girls love it but the water is pretty cold so they get wet then lay in the sun for a minute, then get wet then lay in the sun for a minute. I haven't dare drag out the inflatable pool yet because it's a little big for Chandler so she and Hayden improvised over the weekend with our little sand box. They filled it with water and had a blast. Gracie got to go spend the weekend in Salem at my parent's house by herself which was a huge treat for her. Hayden says " she's having a vacation from me" and in a couple of weeks it will be her turn

Greg and I spent most of the weekend working outside on the yard. I'm not sure if we'll ever be finished. We worked on a rock wall in the front and started a fire pit in the back. One of the perks of working for a construction company is getting to borrow the big equipment once in a while. With Greg having only one arm still and the amount of rocks we had to move we would be there till the cows come home without the big machines. We'll see what other projects I can come up with for next weekend.

Well he survived-

Greg had his surgery last Wednesday and everything went as expected. They reattached the tendon to his forearm and I must say he has been a better patient than I thought he would be. It was painful the first couple days but he seems to be doing well (Who wouldn't with 4 cute nurses waiting on him hand and foot). He had to miss a few days of work but other than that it really hasn't slowed him down too much. In fact I wish he would take it easier than he has. He went back for his post op appointment with the doctor and got a brace that is bent at 90 degrees and it will gradually be straightened over 6 weeks and then he will start physical therapy. Not exactly how he planned to spend the summer but what do ya do right?

Stupid Pig!

So this is not a good way to start the summer. A few weeks ago Greg was helping someone do something with some cows when they mentioned they were buying some pigs to raise then slaughter. Greg mentioned that he thought that was a good idea and he should do something like that. Next thing he knows, somebody called him to say his pig was here. Okay fine so we have a pig. We have to split the price of feed, help take care of them sometimes and then have all the bacon and ham we want. Not that bad of a deal as long as it's nowhere near my house. Until Tuesday when they called to say one of them was sick and they needed to be vaccinated. So Greg goes to help out and reaches down to grab a pig as it's running past him and his left arm just popped. He ruptured his bicep tendon and has to have surgery to repair it. You ought to see the looks on the faces of the people in the doctors offices when they are filling out paperwork and have to put down what his injury is. There's really no good medical way of wording that. Chasing Pig. Anyway he will have surgery on this coming Wednesday and will have to be in a fixed brace for 6 weeks. He's not happy at all about the whole situation since he didn't really want the pig to begin with but then to hear he'll be without one arm for 6 weeks really upset him. The one really good thing to come out of this situation is that it just may have ended his days of wild cow milking in the local rodeos. That's just an accident waiting to happen anyway. One downside is what is to become of all my summer projects? And it is all about me isn't it???? STUPID PIG!!!

The Graduate

Well sort of. It was Hayden's graduation from preschool last night except she really isn't graduating. She misses the cut-off for kindergarten by about 2 months so she will go back to Miss Shari's preschool next year. It was a lovely ceremony though. Miss Shari announced all the graduates and who their parents are then they sang songs that they had learned this year and recited nursery rhymes. Then each student got up and answered questions like what their favorite color, shape, and book are and their favorite thing about preschool this year. Hayden's was snack. I think she liked going this year. She went twice a week and each day I would pick her up and ask her what she learned. Her answer was always "I don't know" and then some days while she was playing around the house she would surprise me with a song or rhyme I didn't know she knew or once it was the entire pledge of allegiance. I'm impressed with how much she seems to know about the alphabet and her letters after only 1 year of preschool. she recognizes most of them and even tries sounding out words sometimes. I guess she did do more than just snack all year at school.

This is Hayden and Miss Shari. We like her a lot. She was Gracie's teacher in preschool as well. Gracie finishes up 1st grade next week and then she's done for the summer. She's pretty excited to be done although I have a feeling she will get bored pretty fast. She likes school and especially reading. Softball starts next week so that will fill a little of out time anyway.

We don't have any big memorial day plans for the weekend. We usually never do except for the annual cemetery tour with the Averett's. We spent last weekend branding cows so hopefully they're taken care of for a while. We've been getting the yard in shape and were hoping to plant some trees tonight actually but I just looked out the window and it's snowing sideways. (grumble grumble) So I guess that's what we'll do this weekend. Exciting as always.

Back to the Ho-Hum!

Well since our vacation ended we've gone back to our same old boring ways. We ended up at the Doctors office last week and Gracie and Chandler both had strep. This is Gracie's 4th time since the fall and it's getting really old. She wouldn't even open her mouth for the nurse to swab her throat and she bit her dad's thumb when he tried to force her. (serves him right!) So luckily the Dr. said with the looks of her throat and her history it has to be strep. I'm going to buy stock in the company that makes amoxicillin. So after missing school for a week for vacation, Gracie ended up missing another 2 days for strep plus a soccer game. We only made it to 2 games this season and the last game she was dragging after being sick. Not that she's all that aggressive with the ball. I got a picture of her the only time she touched the ball but I cut her head off!

That's her I swear. She really likes playing which makes me happy. It can't all be about dance.(Sorry Billy Jo) I think she was a little better this year. She didn't chase quite as many butterflies around. Softball starts soon. I think this year she plays coach pitch which reminds me we had better start practicing. Here are a few more pictures of the 2008 soccer season.

In this one she looks down and ready and really knows what she's doing. I didn't include the next shot where she's scratching her bum. That's my girl!
